We discuss a connection between M -theory and the Gross-Neveu model with fermionic fields obeying periodic boundary conditions in 2 + 1 dimensions. In the large-N limit, the latter may be obtained from the former in the limit of vanishing volume of the Liouville dimension. We show how the world-sheet cosmological constant may be obtained from the Gross-Neveu model. At its critical point, which is given in terms of the golden mean, the values of the vacuum energy and of the cosmological constant are 4/5 and 2/5 of the corresponding values at infinite string coupling constant. We study finite energy topologically stable static solutions to a global symmetry breaking model in 3 + 1 dimensions described by an isovector scalar field. The basic features of two different types of configurations are studied, corresponding to axially symmetric multisolitons with topological charge n, and unstable soliton–antisoliton pairs with zero topological charge.

We extend our models for conformal sequestering of dynamical supersymmetry breaking with decoupling vector-like matter in several different ways. These extensions enable us to simplify concrete model building, in particular, rendering large gauge group and ad hoc global symmetry for sequestering unnecessary. Conformal sequestering appears highly natural in such circumstances.
